Our founding pastor, Tom Shrader, referred to the book of James as “Blue Jean Theology … It’s rugged, durable, and dependable.”
All true, but the metaphor does break down here: The book of James is certainly not casual. It is as serious as it gets. James is the brother of Jesus, and as such, he has insights into Jesus’ way that many did not have. This makes the book of James a solid and serious follow-up to the Sermon on the Mount series from Fall 2024.
Consider the important, every-day topics James confronts head on in his letter: tribulation, perseverance, persecution, favoritism, wisdom, faith and works, our tongues, impetuousness, pride and humility, patience (are you paying attention, Phoenix drivers?), suffering, and prayer. Might there be a few things on that list that apply to you?
Please hang with us at Redemption Arcadia for the nine weeks beginning January 12 and finishing up on March 9 as we work our way through this pithy letter James writes to his compadres and fellow sojourners in the faith.

Research has clearly shown, but is not widely disseminated, that the “three-legged stool” of family, work, and faith are the key to a livable, successful society and culture.
And yet, it is those very things that are under attack in our world.
Aaron Baer will be with us to share why these three things are so important, why they are under attack, and how we should responsibly respond.
