Silence & Sabbath

Tyler James

December 3, 2025

In this midweek class in Phoenix, Pastor Tyler reflects on a season marked by sabbatical, surgery, recovery, and unexpected hardship. As he walked through rest, silence, and weakness, he learned more deeply why God so often works through stillness and why sabbath matters for the Christian life. Come be encouraged to consider how the Lord meets us in silence, teaches us to rest, and forms us through seasons we would not have chosen.

Over the summer, Pastor Tyler took his first Sabbatical where he and his family spent 10 weeks to rest, recalibrate and prepare for re-entry. After being back for 3 weeks, he then had a vocal cord surgery and was in recovery for that, being completely unable to speak for a few weeks where he also learned about a close call with cancer. It’s been quite a year!

Have you ever wondered why God so often works through silence? Do you ever struggle to get away and rest well? Come and be encouraged by insights Tyler learned as he wrestled with these same issues in his time spent away and time spent in silence.

Research has clearly shown, but is not widely disseminated, that the “three-legged stool” of family, work, and faith are the key to a livable, successful society and culture.

And yet, it is those very things that are under attack in our world.

Aaron Baer will be with us to share why these three things are so important, why they are under attack, and how we should responsibly respond.
